Takowbari Greens

Takowbari Greens is a small tea estate located near the Brahmaputra River in Assam. Though it’s a new and small grower’s estate, it carries forward Assam’s 170-year-old tradition of making world-famous tea. The local Mishing community, who live there, sing their folk songs while plucking the tea leaves (“two leaves and a bud” – the best part of the tea plant). The tea gets its strong, malty taste from the fertile soil of the river plains. Along with making great tea, Takowbari also works to protect the surrounding grasslands, which are home to the one-horned rhino.
